Serna Free is an Open Source XML editor now

Serna XML Editor Goes Open Source to Make XML Accessible for Everyone!

We are happy to announce the upcoming release of Serna Free XML Editor as open source software! Serna is a powerful and easy-to-use WYSIWYG XML editor based on open standards, which works on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and Sun Solaris/SPARC.

We are excited to open up the development of Serna to the open source community. Our mission is to make XML accessible for everyone, and we believe that an open source XML editor as user friendly as Serna could enable much more individual users and companies to adopt XML technology. Serna has benefited from open source components and it's time to give back.

The upcoming open source XML editor will retain the rich feature set, usability and productivity of the current Serna Free XML editor. Authors with virtually no XML experience can easily start working with structured XML content in a familiar environment that looks much like a conventional word processor.

Serna is an innovative WYSIWYG XML platform for XML-based applications. Powered by the on-the-fly XSL-driven technology, it provides a single point access to distributed documents. Serna reads XML documents and data from several XML data sources, blends this information into a seamless presentation, allows inexperienced users to edit it like in a word processor and constantly ensures the validity and consistency in terms of structure and business rules.

Anyone who wants to make Serna Free Open Source XML editor better is invited to contribute in any way:
  • Share ideas with the community! Any ideas concerning technology, business or partnership are welcome for discussion at Syntext Forum.
  • Donate to help Serna go free! Making Serna sources open requires quite an effort and goes beyond our regular business. If you love Serna and enjoy using it, please support our effort to make Serna free to the world and serve people better.
  • Spread the news! Please mention Serna goes open source in your blogs, Twitter, and XML mailing lists. The free Serna code needs to find its hackers! We need to know what they think and how they can participate.

Your contributions to Serna Free Open Source XML editor would be very much appreciated. We depend on you to help improve Serna XML Editor and keep it free and running!

Serna Free XML editor is expected to go open source in July, 2009.
