Serna Academic License

Academic users are entitled to buy Serna Professional or Serna Enterprise license for the special price for only 49% of the current price list. Serna Enterprise license is available as 3 or more license pack.

Note: Serna for Solaris 8 is available only for Enterprise Edition. Please contact sales@syntext.com for more information.

Academic Licenses allow students and faculty to use Syntext Serna software for "Academic Purposes" only (see below).

Eligibility

Only state-licensed academic institutions can purchase Academic Licenses. Other organizations (including non-profit organizations) must purchase the regular Serna license.

Purchasing Procedure

We must receive a request from an authorized representative of the Academic Institution. If the academic activity of the representative is obvious from the results of internet search engines, then no additional letter is necessary. Otherwise, the representative should send an official letter of request (original or fax).

The representative must be a full-time employee of the Academic Institution. Students and part-time staff are explicitly not authorized to request Academic Licenses.

Academic Purposes

By purchasing an Academic License, you agree that Syntext Serna software will be used for "Academic Purposes" only, such as: academic training and research programs by qualified educational institutions, including the students and faculty thereof, specifically excluding:

development of a system to be used for commercial gain, whether to be sold or to be used within a company, partnership, organization or entity that transacts commercial business;
use of Syntext Serna in a commercial business for any reason other than exploratory development and "proof of concept" prototyping, even if Syntext Serna is not incorporated into an application or product to be sold;
the use of Syntext Serna to enable the use of another application that was developed with Syntext Serna, inclusion of Syntext Serna in a collection of software, whether that collection is sold, given away, or made part of a larger collection, inclusion of Syntext Serna in another product, whether or not that other product is sold, given away, or made part of a larger product.

Customers have access to the Serna users forum for discussing problems, functionality, and feature requests related to Syntext Serna.

Academic License Includes 12-month basic support. Basic support includes free download access for minor and bug fix releases for 12 months from the date of purchase and best effort e-mail support. Premium support can be purchased with the same discount as Academic Licenses. Minor version number is the two last numbers of the product version number (for example, V1.2.5 means major version 1 and minor version 2.5).
